My name's Chloe Burns and I was an intern the summer of 2020. So what interested me about the internship is I heard about it previously from a few friends and people who have been through the program.
So I learned that it wasn't just you were learning about a job or what you could do in a career, but it also was building you as a person and some of your skills. So, whether it was going through the strengths workshop, or it was the emotional intelligence, as well as just connecting with people throughout the company and also peers who are all college juniors and seniors about to start their own career.
But during the 10 weeks, I had two different roles. I worked in the advisor unit, first with the broker-dealer and national accounts team for about six weeks, and then I had another four weeks where I was with our marketing team. The internship helped me prepare for my associate's role, as I applied and was offered the position after the internship. It was just, I already had a built-in network, 'cause you got to meet a bunch of people through all the different sessions that they host for you. As well as just having a mentor already built in helped me when I started off here. And she sits on the same floor as me, and I can go see her any time of day and talk to her, and I know she'll help me out.
As an intern, I learned about just SEI in general and what they do, so that helped me when I came to the associates role, that I had that built-in background of who SEI was, as well as I was able to build some sales skills during my internship that applied to my job now and the different roles that I take on. We had a case study project where we worked on it with other individuals that were interning in different units. We were able to connect, learn about them, as well as work on a group project, which is a great skill to have.
The best part of my internship experience, although it was 2020 and it was all virtual, I think was just getting to meet other individuals at the company, as well as connect with the other interns. I would tell someone applying for the internship to be open-minded. I learned a lot starting off in my internship and now in my career. So really being open-minded is, you can either work in any different unit throughout the company. It doesn't matter what your major is or what you do, but you're gonna learn as much as possible, and you wanna soak that in, as well as just be ready to build your network. It's one of the most important things in college and in your career. My name's Chloe Burns, and I encourage you to build your brave future at SEI.
