Why did Waverton choose to implement the SEI Data Cloud when adopting the SEI Wealth Platform? 
When we were looking for a partner, it was important that the technology strategy of that partner supported our ability to be agile and flexible and deliver value to both our portfolio managers and our clients.

The SEI Data Cloud was a data delivery mechanism, gave us control of the core accounting data that SEI were looking after. What that meant was that we could leave SEI to look after the core operating model and then we could go and focus on the pieces that we considered added value to our business and our proposition. Looking for those differentiators in our investment proposition, looking for differentiators in our client proposition. So be that in our digital delivery, be that in how our internal portfolio management systems are operating and the data cloud is a mechanism that allowed us to have an awful lot of control over that. 

So, if you consider historically, if you're looking for data delivery integration, you may have had file-based overnight file-based integration. You may have had API based integration with the Data Cloud. We didn't need to be too definitive upfront what we needed from SEI. SEI said, here's your data. Here's the data that we are looking after for you. You guys now go and do what you want with it. And that gave us a tremendous amount of freedom and flexibility to deliver into the rest of the business as part of our overall partnership. 

What’s so powerful about the SEI Data Cloud? 
We've been integrating with partners and other providers for years, and one of the challenges that we've had as a technology team is identifying changes in data in an efficient way. So change detection. If we don't have efficient change detection, then it means that we are having to try and identify changes in client data or transactional data or valuation data, and that's time consuming and inefficient.

One of the big powers of the Data Cloud is the event driven change detection mechanism. So what that allows us to do is to receive events on changes and decide whether we want to act on those changes. So for example, a new client is added, we receive a notification of that. Do we want to deal with that now or do we want to deal it with it overnight? What that allows us to do is to be very specific about what's important at particular times of the day, keeping up to date on certain things such as transactional information, whilst other things we might wait and do them overnight and overnight batches, something like that. 

Why is access to real-time data so valuable to Waverton? 
So as we know over the last two decades, the importance of data in any area of the business has increased. That goes for timely data. So how do we support effective decision making in real time? How do we ensure that we're feeding back to clients with up-to-date information? It's super important that our clients receive the full picture when they're talking to our portfolio managers, and it's super important that our portfolio managers have accurate data to drive that investment decision making in making sure that our overall client proposition is as good as possible.
