Discovery Tool Identifies and Prioritizes Goals

Identifying life goals and prioritizing them is among the biggest hurdle for most people. Even with SEI Wealth Network’s decision framework of Self, Family and Community, it’s still hard for individuals to see what’s possible, weigh the choices, set priorities and reach agreement with family members. Recognizing the difficulty, the company decided to introduce something creative that would shake people up a bit - encourage them to use their imaginations and really talk about what they want. The Discovery Board, or game board as it is often referred, was just the ticket.

How it works

Clients are given cards that have a variety of life choices printed on them like “teach children the importance of giving” and “set someone up with a business.” The idea is to place each card on the board in one of four quadrants: want to now, want to do later, have to do now and have to do later. When SEI works with couples (its typical and preferred approach), it requires that they agree on where to place each card. That can provoke some lively discussion, which is what most have been putting off, according SEI wealth managers. At the end of the game, couples feel a sense of accomplishment and, that at least, they have the start of a road map for their future.

See for yourself. Play the Game Board.
