In the late 1960s, recognizing the need for faster and better training in lending practices, SEI created the first computer-simulated training technology for loan officers.
In the 1970s, when bank trust departments were still largely functioning as a “paper and pencil” business, SEI transformed the industry by creating a completely automated trust accounting system. Today, based on continued evolution, our platform remains the industry standard in automated trust technology.
In the 1980s, SEI helped change the way people look at investing with a pioneering role in applying modern portfolio theory through comprehensive asset allocation models — a process that now is an investment cornerstone.
In the 1990s, SEI led the development of a fee-based operating platform for independent advisors, further transforming the marketplace by aligning advisors’ business interests with their clients’ investment success. SEI was also among the first companies to offer the Manager-of-Managers concept to both institutional and individual investors.
In the 2000s, SEI introduced: (1) a pension management program that fully integrates the pension decision into corporate finance, enabling the CFO to more fully address how pensions impact the company’s financial position; (2) a complete life and wealth approach for affluent families who are demanding a holistic, life-goals-based, wealth management experience; and (3) an all-encompassing infrastructure for investment managers called Total Operational Outsourcing that provides seamless, integrated control of all operations.
Today, for global private banks, SEI has introduced Global Wealth Services. This new solution enables banks to transition from a traditional account-based service to a customer-centric model, providing a new foundation for holistic advice with full integration of administration, workflow and support in a genuine real-time environment.
