Socially Responsible Investing

Socially Responsible Investing

Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) has received significant attention over the past several years, driven by a growing desire among nonprofit organizations and their donors to invest in a way that is reflective of their personal values and social priorities. SEI can screen for sin stocks on over 25 screens which can be customized for each individual client. Additionally, SEI can screen at the individual security level. SEI offers SRI solutions that consider both the investor's financial needs and the impact that an investment will have on society. We can help your organization maximize your investments while maintaining a portfolio that reflects your mission’s goals and beliefs through the following services:

Social Screening
Social screening alone is primarily the principal strategy employed for SRI, according to The Social Investment Forum’s most recent bi-annual report on SRI trends in the U.S. Through our partnership with KLD Research & Analytics, Inc., an independent investment research firm, SEI receives research, benchmarks and compliance services that help us identify successful companies with more enlightened policies and business practices. This social screening process allows SEI to help our clients to build a diversified portfolio of responsible companies.

Separately Managed Account Solutions
Social screening for socially irresponsible stocks is conducted within separately managed portfolios. Specialist managers selected by SEI have the ability to screen out ‘individual stocks’ or otherwise create ‘socially or culturally responsible’ portfolios using KLD industry screens.

SEI Oversight
SEI’s role is investment adviser while specialist managers work as sub-advisers. SEI focuses on monitoring investment managers on a day-to-day basis to ensure that the companies in your portfolios are maintaining the standards which justified their selection. Additionally, SEI makes sure that your managers stay true to their investment mandates and that your portfolio remains on track to meet your investment objectives.

Proxy Voting
SEI can implement a proxy voting feature which gives investors the option of voting proxies.

Affiliation with ICCR
SEI is a proud affiliate of the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, the premier organization in furthering the overall corporate social responsibility movement. ICCR members are well-informed, institutional investors who realize that high performance and socially-screened portfolios can co-exist. In our eyes, ICCR was the best organization to help us enhance the programs and services we offer to our Nonprofit clients. We support ICCR’s work in shareholder advocacy, and we remain informed regarding their initiatives.
